Originaire d'Inde, le kalamkari est un ancien artisanat de peinture ou d'impression de textiles à la main utilisant des couleurs végétales. Le mot dérive des mots Kalam, signifiant stylo, et kari, signifiant savoir-faire. Contrairement à d'autres techniques de peinture et d'impression, le Kalamkari implique de nombreux traitements avant et après que l'impression soit terminée sur le dhurrie. La nature même de l'impression et de la teinture rend chaque pièce unique.
Des blocs sculptés à la main sont utilisés pour imprimer le motif sur le dhurrie. Selon le motif, plusieurs blocs peuvent être utilisés.

I could not love this bedspread and matching pillows more! They add a real nice “pop” and warmth to a wood-paneled guest bedroom at our beach cottage. The quality of the cotton is excellent — sturdy, so should handle multiple washes. The colors are a tad more muted in reality than on the vendor’s photo — all the better as far as I am concerned. I hope that the vendor considers making this in a few additional color options. I also want to thank Sharull at Colors of India Studio for the first-rate customer service. As soon as India went into Covid lockdown, Sharull alerted me that shipping would be delayed and offered the option to cancel my order. How glad I did not! Sharull also kept me updated. I received delivery last week, in a canvas envelope. Inside, a lovely handwritten note and a small gift candleholder. Thanks ever so!

This hand embroidered bag is absolutely gorgeous! The colors and the pattern are so vibrant. It was also a pleasure to work with the owner, Sharull. I initially ordered the bag a few months ago, but she immediately notified me that international flights from India were suspended because of COVID. Once flights resumed, she took the time to reach out to me to let me know. Throughout the shipping process, she was always responsive to my queries.
